Open Studio

SPRING STUDIO Open House: Sunday April 30th, 2023, 1 - 5 p.m.

I’m writing to invite you to come to my Elmira, Ontario studio, on April 30th, 1-5 p.m., for a showing of my paintings and prints in the space where the work was created.

I have kept my large and wonderful studio in Elmira and it continues to be a major setting for the creation of my paintings and monotypes.

It's been inspiring to work in this space again, and the studio is filling up with oil paintings and monotypes, which I'd love to share with you.

Please come and see where I work, come for a chat, and feel free to bring a friend. A selection of recent works, oil paintings (small to large) and smaller print works, will be on display.

Some of this work has never been exhibited, some are experimental paintings and prints which have led me in new directions, and some are individual paintings remaining from recently completed painting projects. All the works will be for sale, of course, and some will be offered at below-market prices to honour the many people in Ontario who have supported and encouraged me in the past two decades. I am grateful for your continued support!

This will be a relaxed and casual event...a visit to a working studio rather than a formal exhibition. Refreshments will be served.

I hope you come and feel free to invite others as well!

RUPTURED LANDSCAPES at the Rotunda Gallery, Kitchener City Hall, Kitchener Ontario, March 1 to April 30, 2024

Rotunda Gallery at Kitchener City Hall, 200 King Ave. West, Kitchener

Ruptured Landscapes is a solo exhibition of oil paintings that explore the relationship between people and our fragile environment, a world threatened by systematic disintegration and devastation. Environmental concerns are a focus in my current practice. My paintings explore and speak to climate change, particularly on oceans and shorelines: the sea level is rising, waters are warming, storms are intensifying, lives and communities are at risk. Conjured partly from memory, partly from photographs, the figures in the paintings uneasily inhabit places that are explored in the past and present, with a focus on their relationship to bodies of water. There will be an opening reception in March 2nd, 2 to 5 p.m. All are welcome! This body of work was funded by an Arts Nova Scotia Creation Grant, for which I am most grateful.
